Pepper, Olive & Ham Cake
Cake Salé or Savoury cakes are very popular in France and are similar to a quick bread, like a banana bread. We make them for different occasions such as a picnic or a buffet meal with a green salad or for aperitif bites. It is very easy to do and you can literally add any vegetable, cured meat, cheese, dried fruit you fancy.
For the recipe: in a bowl, mix 180gr flour, 1tsp baking soda, 3 eggs, 150gr grated cheese, 100mls olive oil, 100mls milk (I used soya milk but you can use cow’s milk), 100gr chopped ham or lardons, 100gr chopped olives and 100gr sliced peppers (I used the frozen mixed peppers from the French frozen company https://www.picard.fr that you can buy from Ocado in the UK). Pour in a buttered cake tin and place in the oven for about 30-35 minutes at 180 degrees until golden. Wait until it cools down to slice and eat. Enjoy!
